You know, I have a great appreciation for my UPS delivery guy. The fellow works hard and had worked hard in the past. I once went to a UPS recruitment event. It was ridiculous what those guys had todo. To become a driver, you have to work your way up. First thing’s first: you have to be a loader. These guys bust their asses offloading boxes that come sliding down a ramp. They come at a consistent rate, so you really have to keep up. They slide down and you stack them into the huge metal container. I wasn’t working and it was hot as hell, beads of sweat rolling down my forehead, soon turning into a stead stream. I could only imagine what it would be like to actually do work in there.
Anyway, after paying your dues as a loader, you become eligible for the position of a driver. These guys get a very decent wage. I forget the exact number, but it certainly isn’t shabby. Then there’s the overtime. Overall, you could make a modest but satisfactory living being a UPS driver.
I truly appreciate these fellows. It’s probably because I do a lot of online shopping. But the way I see it, these guys are the backbone of e-commerce. Without them, online business wouldn’t exist. They make my life a lot more convenient. I don’t have a car, so it would be unfeasible for me to go to Circuit City to pick up a 75-pound Blackbird 002. Because of the UPS, I also save a lot of money by purchasing things online, where oftentimes I can avoid paying taxes.Anyway, I feel bad for my UPS delivery guy because today, he will be lugging to my doorsteps a 55-pound set of speakers: the Logitech Z-5500s. And today, I am going to be at my brother’s high school graduation. It’s the damnedest thing, my life has always been a string of events that involve bad timing. This is a minor one, but it reminds me of the rest of my life. So about the speakers. I decided to spring for them. Hopefully, I won’t regret my purchase: they are replacing my current Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system.
The Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers are a 200 watt system. The subwoofer accounts for 130 of those watts, making the two speakers 35 watts each. Not knowing all too much about speakers, but thinking I know enough, the Logitech Z-5500’s speakers are 62 watts each, with 69 allocated to the center channel. I don’t know if the sound is going to be any better, but considering that I am getting back into PC gaming, I thought that I ought to have a surround sound system for it.
The other thing is that it’s got an optical connection for decoding Dolby Digital and DTS signals. A lot of the videos I watch nowadays are in x264 HD format, all of which have DD or DTS audio. Combined with my Blackbird 002’s Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card, I’ll be able to enjoy true 5.1 sound in the comfort of my computer chair. And the bonus: multiple inputs. I’d be able to play music from my iPod and my XM radio.
Anyway, I feel bad for my driver. Yeah, I know he gets paid for this, but still. I just hope that this scenario doesn’t present itself again when my Blackbird 002 comes in.
